Most offsites are judged on gut feeling.
"It was a nice time, the team enjoyed it."
But whether the offsite changed how people work together stays an open question. This self-assessment shows whether yours has measurable impact, and exactly where the gap is.
The five dimensions of offsite impact
Together they decide whether an experience turns into a measurable business result.
2. Baseline measurement
Do you know the current state before you change anything? Without a baseline on alignment, trust or clarity, there is nothing to measure progress against.
1. Goal clarity
Does the team know beforehand what it is working towards? A strong offsite has a goal tied to a concrete business problem, phrased so you can tell afterwards whether it was achieved.
3. Embedding in daily work
Does the result survive the trip back to the office? Commitments need named owners and a fixed review date, not just good intentions.
4. Leadership involvement
Are leaders genuinely on board? Impact grows when leadership shapes the offsite and visibly champions the results afterwards.
6. Your maturity profile
Transfer your level for each dimension into the grid. The shape shows at a glance where your offsite is strong and where it loses its impact.
5. Proof of impact
Can you show upwards what it delivered? A satisfaction survey on the last day is not proof. A before-and-after measurement over several weeks is.

How the diagnostic works
It takes about 15 minutes and works best as a team. Fill it in on screen or print it and work through it together.
1. Bring the right people together
Ideally the people who plan the offsite plus at least one leader. Different views on where the gaps are make the result more honest.
2. Rate 15 statements
Each of the five dimensions has three statements. For each, place your team on one of four levels, from Level 1 (not true at all) to Level 4 (fully established).
3. Map your maturity profile
Transfer your level for each dimension into the grid and connect the dots. You get a map of strengths and gaps, not a single score.
5. Read your pattern
Mostly Level 1 to 2: an experience, but not a provable result. Mixed: good foundations with one or two gaps. Mostly Level 3 to 4: time to fine-tune and present the evidence.
4. Find your weakest dimension
It is not the average that matters, but your weakest dimension. That is usually where the impact of your offsite fizzles out.
6. Close the gap
The diagnostic shows where the gap is. Which baseline method, measurement window and report format close it is what SPIRA has developed.
Measuring offsite impact FAQs:
How do you measure the ROI of a team offsite?
Start before the offsite. Define a measurable goal, assess the current state as a baseline, then repeat the same measurement in the weeks after. The difference is your evidence.
Is a feedback survey on the last day enough?
No. It measures how much people enjoyed the event, not whether collaboration, alignment or decision-making changed back at work.
When should you measure the results of an offsite?
Over a fixed window of several weeks after the event. That shows whether the change holds once daily pressure returns.
Who should fill in the diagnostic?
The people who plan the offsite together with at least one leader. Filling it in as a group surfaces different views on the gaps.
